From sleepless nights to hope – tDCS for fibromyalgia

“Something has definitely changed.”

For years, a long-suffering fibromyalgia patient lived in uncertainty. Pain in her hips, constant fatigue, and restless nights became part of everyday life. Even after finally receiving a fibromyalgia diagnosis, the reality didn’t get easier. Medications, including strong opioids, brought little relief. Surgery didn’t help. And the nights remained the hardest part: she rarely slept more than an hour and a half at a time.

“My symptoms woke me up, and I would go to the bathroom, feel hungry, eat something, and try to go back to bed,” she recalls. “It went on like that for years.”

In October 2024, she began the neuromodulation treatment for pain known as Sooma tDCS for fibromyalgia. The change came quickly. After the first weeks of treatment sessions, she started sleeping for three to four hours in a row.

“It may not sound like much, but for me it was life-changing. My brain, which wouldn’t let me sleep before, suddenly allowed it,” she says. Even when she wakes at night now, she falls back asleep more easily.

The pain is still unpredictable and can shift with the seasons, but the improvement in sleep has brought her new hope. “I don’t feel fully rested yet, but something has definitely changed.” She is optimistic that doing the Sooma pain treatment long-term will bring additional improvements.

“It’s straightforward to use once you read the instructions… it’s very manageable,” she says. She experienced only a few mild headaches in the first days, which passed quickly, and has had no other notable side effects since.

Her message to others with fibromyalgia is simple: “This is noninvasive and safe. More doctors and patients should know this option exists.” For her, the experience shows how Sooma tDCS for fibromyalgia can open the door to better sleep and new hope.
