The Hospital District of Southwest Finland (VSSHP) has entered into a procurement agreement with Sooma Oy for the procurement of direct current stimulation devices (tDCS).

The contract covers the years 2020-2021 with the option to extend until 2024. The contract was awarded after tendering.

VSSHP is an international pioneer in neuromodulation treatments and is home to Finland’s national Center of Excellence in neuromodulation therapies.

“The decision to expand the use of tDCS was made on the basis of a cost-effectiveness assessment. Transcranial direct current stimulation (TDCS) is an inexpensive and effective treatment that can be easily combined with other treatment options. tDCS is used in VSSHP mainly for the treatment of depression and chronic pain.”, says adjunct professor, chief physician Tero Taiminen from VSSHP.

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has been added to the national treatment guideline for depression, updated in January 2020 and is available in several health care units around the country.
