This original research shows how tDCS (anode over the left DLPFC and a cathode over the right DLPFC) caused significant increases in dopamine release in the right striatum and GABA concentrations in the left striatum suggesting that in addition to tDCS mechanism based on altering the glutamatergic and GABAergic activities within the cortical region tDCS could modulate the monoaminergic systems in the deep brain structures.
