First, start by using Sooma Software Suite

The treatment course starts with the medical professional creating an account for themselves in the professional’s portal, and asking their patient to install the Sooma Patient App.

Then, the medical professional connects with their patient through the software, and sets up an individualised treatment plan for the patient based on their needs.

Second, conduct the first treatment session

The second step is to conduct the first treatment session is under supervision of the medical professional at the clinic.

The medical professional instructs their patient on how to prepare and administer the treatment by guiding them through the appropriate steps and answering any questions they may have about the administration of the treatment.

Third, start self-administration and home use

After the first treatment session, the medical professional loans the Sooma tDCS device and accessories to the patient, who takes them home with them. The device and accessories are kept safely in the Sooma Mobile Case while the patient transports them and in-between treatment sessions.

For the following weeks the patient self-administers the treatment daily at their home. How many weeks depends on the patient’s individual treatment plan, but normally treatment lasts 3 weeks for depression therapy and 2 weeks for pain therapy.

The patient can engage in various light activities during treatment sessions, such as reading, watching TV, cooking, or going for a walk.

Correctly placed (middle line in line with nose, cap edge right over eyebrows), the Sooma head cap ensures that the electrodes are kept firmly in the right place also during movement.

Meanwhile, the Sooma tDCS device is easy and convenient to operate. It is equipped with a power switch and start button, used to power up the device and start the treatment session, respectively.

Before the treatment can be started, the device measures the contact between the electrodes and the scalp, and starts only when there is sufficient contact, reducing the risk for wrongful use. The device turns itself off after completing a treatment session.

Fourth, monitor the patient’s progress

Sooma Software Suite lets the medical professional monitor their patient’s progress during the course of the entire treatment.

After each session, the patient logs their daily mood and well-being in the Sooma Patient App. The medical professional can access this data in the professionals’ internet portal, and can monitor the patient’s progress.

The medical professional can make changes to the treatment plan at any time; the patient will be alerted and able to view the changes and follow the new, updated plan. The medical professional is also able to leave notes for the patient in the portal.

Last, finish the course of treatment

At the end of the treatment course, when the patient has completed each session in the treatment plan, the patient returns to see the medical professional. The patient’s progress is reviewed and the medical professional decides whether further treatment or maintainace treatment is required.

When no further treatment is required, the patient returns the Sooma tDCS device and reusable accessories to the medical professional.

Sooma tDCS home-use is an easy, convenient, and safe treatment option for patients. The patient self-administers the treatment at home, and the medical professional is able to monitor the patient’s progress and stay in contact with the patient throughout the entire treatment.
